We are very pleased to announce that the Ottawa restaurant Town won a Bronze Medal in the Gold Medal Plates & Canadian Cuilinary Championships with a dish designed and paired with our 2014 Pinot Gris cuivré. The event was held Nov 7th at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa and involved 9 of Ottawa’s finest restaurants.

Hot Sellers:

Three of our recent releases, the 2014 Chardonnay VQA PEC, the 2014 Pinot Gris cuivré VQA PEC and the 2015 Pinot Gris cuivré have sold out quickly. These wines were very popular and were the favourites of many of the restaurants that feature our wines. We are sad to see them go!

New Releases and New Award:

We have recently released an outstanding 2014 Pinot Noir VQA PEC. The 2014 vintage was exceptional and we are now releasing two editions of this wine: this one and a very special Barrel Select. Both have beautiful blackberry/cherry flavours, balanced with our characteristic minerality and acidity while the Barrel Select has somewhat more body and complexity. The first wine, released a little earlier, recently won a Silver Medal at the Intervin International Wine Awards. It joins the Gold Medal won earlier by our 2014 Chardonnay VQA PEC.

We have also recently released a 2014 Riesling made from a blend of PEC and Niagara grapes. Their vinification involved an unusual procedure and resulted in an intriguing and unique version of Riesling (see wines)!

Stanners Vineyard is a family venture that began in 2003 with the purchase of a parcel of farmland near the village of Hillier in Prince Edward County. The "terroir", that is, the soil, terrain and weather, seemed ideal for our quest to produce a Pinot Noir that would be the rival of any in the world. We love Pinot Noir, making this quest a pleasure as well as a challenge. It is believed that the best Pinot Noir is made from grapes grown in the most northerly terroir that can actually produce and ripen the grape. Prince Edward County is indeed a northerly location and the moderating influence of Lake Ontario which surrounds us makes grape growth and ripening possible. It also boasts the calcareous, limestone-riddled soils that are highly reminiscent of those in Burgundy, the home of world-renowned Pinot Noir wines. Our goal, however, is not to imitate Burgundy, but to bring out the best characteristics that our terroir can instill in the wine that it yields.

Our winery was built in the summer of 2009, using the ecofriendly Straw Bale construction method for our barrel room, which offers excellent insulation for maintaining temperature equilibrium. Ours is the first Straw Bale winery east of the Rockies! Our tasting bar is in the barrel room and it is well worth a visit to taste our wines in the cool temperature and unique atmosphere of our above ground wine cellar.
